On the 2nd of January, we all had Breakfast at Zee Best restaurant, a restaurant that Austin discovered and raved about when he returned from delivering Pegasus to St. Maarten, and they gave us amazing pastries to start and we all enjoyed our breakfast crepes and even though there was a lot food and a few mosquitoes it was a fantastic breakfast. A funny thing about the restaurant was that even though they put the pastries on the table like a restaurant would give you bread they charged you for them BUT they were worth every penny. Realizing that completion of the boat list was taking longer than expected (should this have been a surprise!) we extended our stay at the hotel for an extra few nights.

The afternoon of the 2nd, Cameron, Alison, and Kathleen took a “tour” to the highest point of the island. The point was on the French side of the island, called Pic Paradis, so during the trip we have now gone to the Netherlands and France. There was no grand view from the top and the road up was very narrow all though there were many small breaks in the trees with stunning views of various sides of the island. Kathleen thought the ride up was a real test managing her fear of heights. Pic Paradis had a radio tower on the top. We didn’t get any amazing pictures but the ones we did get are here. Kathleen’s favorite part of the tour were the very large iguanas lounging in the trees. They were primarily orange but some were green and they were huge.

The next day Cameron, Alison, and Kathleen went to the Lucky Stables horse riding place. For an hour we went through trails in a more desert like part of St. Maarten with Cactuses as well as lush foliage. It was an adventure since it was Cameron’s first time on a horse. At the end of the trip we all took our shoes off and rode the horses in the water! Alison was so excited to get back on a horse again and have this first time experience riding a horse in the water!

Alison (Horses): The horseback riding at Lucky Stables was decent. I felt that the trails needed to be kept in better shape because there were lots of rocks on the trails and sometimes when you went up hill the rocks came loose and the horses had a hard time getting up. I also think the horses should have been better groomed because there was dried mud on the horse I rode. Overall I feel that if you visit St. Maarten you should check out Lucky Stables. It was good for those with little experience as the horses were well trained. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

Hi Alison,

Zach says he'll sweep the rocks with his pet rocks to clear your trail. Jack wants pictures of sea shells. The class has noticed there are no commas before the "but"s! Mrs. Howell says, "It's all about the RUM!!!" Thinking this is turning into a FOOD BLOG!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop making us drool!
